What is the Big House?
|
The Big House is the name of Gun Lake Community Church's Children and Family Ministry. At The Big House, our goal is to equip families and engage children to help them grow into Biblical champions for Jesus Christ.
Imagine raising kids who are growing toward full devotion to Christ, who can meet the challenges their generation faces and be leaders for the Kingdom! Think of a place where children have so much fun learning about how awesome God is that they don't want to miss a single week. Imagine a place where the music is so contemporary and engaging that children leave humming the tunes and singing the words that help them remember biblical truths all week; where video and drama are effectively used to teach this media-driven generation about how to live the Christian life at home, at school and in their neighborhoods. Think of a ministry where children are intentionally shepherded in small groups where they are known and loved; where adult volunteers serve with great joy and passion knowing they are influencing the next generation of Christ's followers.
That is the kind of place we, at the Big House at GLCC, want our children's ministry to be.
But we are only part of equation. We also want to partner with parents through seminars, newsletters, personal relationships and counseling to help them to become "impressive parents", fulfilling God's instruction to parents in Deuteronomy 6:6-7:
"These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

Come and visit us! There's always room at the Big House!
BECOMING A CHRISTIAN
God is a God of hope. He offers hope through His Son, Jesus. You can communicate the hope of salvation through Jesus to parents and the children you teach. This plan can be a guide as you share your testimony with people in your ministry.
First of all, accept that...
God loves you. He loved you so much that he allowed His very own Son to take the blame for your sin (John 3:16)
Christ died for you and everyone who has sinned against Him. (Romans 5:8b)
Recognize that...
Everyone sins. No exceptions! (Romans 3:23)
Sin separates you from God. The price you should reasonably pay is separation (death) from God, but He has another way. (Romans 6:23)
Believe that...
Jesus is the answer. Believe in Jesus. The Bible says that believeing Jesus is God's Son is the first step toward faith. (Acts 16:31)
Then...
Admit to God that you are a sinner. Ask God to forgive you and to allow you to live with Him forever. (1 John 1:9)
Do not just say you are sorry but ask God to help you change your ways. Do an about-face. Ask God to help you stop doing what you should not do and do what you should. (Acts 3:19)
Tell others about your faith in Jesus. Confess to others what Jesus has done for you and how He has changed your life. (Romans 10:9)
Live in a way that pleases God. God wants you to follow His guidelines for living. This will be your testimony to your new life in Him. (John 14:15) Take the next step of obedience through baptism. Then grow through fellowship and worship with other believers.
Check out Parent Link. This is a news letter that we put out quarterly. In it you will find helpful information about current movies, video games, music, interactive games, and teachable moments. This is a tool that EVERY PARENT needs to check out!
