Gun Lake Youth Ministry Internship

Gun Lake Community Church is seeking ministry minded young adults to minister to youth in the Gun Lake area 15 hours a week

during the 2008-2009 academic year.

Gun Lake Community Church is located on the northwest corner of Gun Lake in Wayland Michigan half way between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.  We are 6 miles east of US 131 off the Bradley/Hopkins exit.  This past year there have been tremendous efforts in prayer and resources to reach out to students in 6 school districts within 10 miles of GLCC.  In September 2007, GLCC completed renovations of “The Loft” youth facility which has attracted over 1000 different kids through 4 weekly programs.

Our unique style of ministry is led by Robb Kornoelje and Jeanne Hannuksela.  Robb joined the staff at GLCC in November of 2006.  Previously he served 7 years on the youth ministry staff at Resurrection Life Church in Grandville Michigan.  He lives in Hudsonville, Michigan with his wife Michelle and son Drew.  Robb has a life long connection with Gun Lake.  His parents have a cottage on the lake and he and his family have spent their summers there since his birth.  Little did he know that one day God would call him to minister to kids in this area at GLCC.  Robb spent his first 18 months at GLCC developing a deep and wide strategy for reaching students and making disciples.  This also included the renovation of GLCC’s gymnasium into what is now known as “The Loft”.   His relational evangelism style has led GLCC to begin 2 outreach programs.  The first is a Middle School after school program where the GLCC bus picks up students at their school and brings them to the Loft.  The other is a Friday night hang out for high school students at the Loft. Also weekly teaching and discipleship is done on Wednesday and Sunday nights.

Jeanne Hannuksela joined the GLCC Youth staff as our campus minister in February 2008.  Previously, Jeanne served 4 years on staff at Mars Hill Bible Church in Grandville, MI on the Community Life team. She is a graduate of Baptist Bible College (A.A.), Liberty University (B.A. Psychology) and Excel Academy of Cosmetology. However, Jeanne credits her true leadership/ministry (and haircutting) training to the 7 summers on staff at Lake Ann Camp. Jeanne enjoys traveling and diversity. She plans to spend time in every country in the world. So far she has been to 23 different countries. Her favorite continent is Africa.

Gun Lake Community Church is a part of the RCA (Reformed Church of America)  We are a church that goes out of it’s way to meet people where they are at and call them to be devoted followers of Christ.  Although there are certain traditions we hold to we consider ourselves a diverse mix of people who are reforming their lives to look more like Jesus.  We’re not into doing things the same old way and expecting different results.   We believe this will be an incredible opportunity for you personally to grow spiritually as well as in your ministry giftings.  If your interest has been peeked please pray!  Don’t hesitate to check our references, speak with the godly people in your life and hear God’s voice.
